The Venue

The O2

On Sunday 24th June 2007 The O2, Europe's finest entertainment destination, opened its doors to the public for the very first time. After two years of building, The O2 revealed its transformation from the Millennium Dome into a world-class, state of the art venue for entertainment and sport, unique to the UK.

Surrounding the arena within the 22-acre indoor site lies Entertainment Avenue, home to over 20 bars and restaurants, an 11 screen Vue cinema complex which held the UK premiere of The Simpsons and High School Musical 2 and The O2 bubble, recently host of the world-renowned Tutankhamun exhibition and from March 2009 permanent home to the British Music Experience. Also on Entertainment Avenue is indigO2, a smaller 2,350 capacity live music venue, host to a huge array of artists including Jools Holland, Joss Stone, Paul Weller, The Hoosiers, and a one off speaking appearance by Bill Clinton. Matter, the new 2,600 capacity nightclub by the people behind Fabric, is the newest addition to the Avenue.

The O2 is an official venue for the 2012 Olympics hosting both gymnastic and basketball events.
