Event History

The first male Artistic Gymnastics World Championships took place over a hundred years ago in Antwerp, Belgium in 1903. The First World War caused the competition to stop until 1922 when Lubljana in Slovenia hosted the first post-war competition. The Second World War also meant a halt to the competition and it was not reinstated until 1950 in Basle, Switzerland.

Birmingham saw the first Individual All-around event in 1993, followed by Brisbane in 1994, and then Melbourne, Australia in 2005 where Beth Tweddle won Bronze medal on A.Bars.

The womens debut at the World Championships was in Budapest, Hungary in 1934. Since the Basle Championships in 1950 women have also competed in the Individual Apparatus Finals.
